I saw my first SnorgTee the other night and it was pretty terrible.
You know, I really am kind of an asshole sometimes. I kind of wanted to make my inaugural post taking shots at easy targets and companies that I really dislike, that I believe are nothing more than opportunistic kids looking for money with no designs or willingness to work for it, but it’s wrong of me to assume that just because a companies designs are awful, like, say, Delante James (seriously, buddy?), that they’re money-hungry dickweeds who think the t-shirt game is easy money.
There are plenty of people who think that my designs are pretty crummy, and I’ve e-mailed my fair share of other designers and retail stores and not even been worth a reply, so maybe I shouldn’t be so bitter towards other designers and such. There are plenty out there whose work is fantastic, who I definitely admire, and plenty of them are here with us, which is pretty killer.
But still, there are certain things that I just can’t go for in t-shirt design (no can do), so, what are certain things that you can’t stand in contemporary t-shirts? Making every worn-out punchline from movies and tv into a shirt? Loads of cusses? Dumb cartoons backed up with lame inside jokes? Let me know.
I’d have to say probably a place like Snorg. You can tell they’re just in it to make a quick buck.
I don’t really consider myself a very good graphic designer when it comes to shirts, but I feel like I put a lot more work into my shirts than what companies like that do. And besides, what fun is it when a company launches with 10+ shirts? It’s good that they have a selection, but you never really get to see them grow that much. That’s something that I like.
